The School Bell

The school bell jingles

hammer the ears like the icecream man's whistle

Entwined feet stomps on concreted ground.

Soon, silence rules over the long passage

Cling clang of Biro tips fills the atmosphere

hoots and honks muffles down the road

Over the book slides and flying papers

Over the "Are you listening" of teachers

Like a bee nettling crooked petals.

Ben tiptoes into the brown brick building

Elias bumps into unkept banana peel

Like a loose balloon he flips over the stair

Laughter rises like windshield flag.

Jack the nerdy balance his doodling Google

I watch from the guava tree with quibbled thoughts

No one to ask me "what's wrong" as

Gentle breeze brush my cheeks with smiles

Legs upright now, face set up for the west

Elias judder like a faulty train.

School bell jingle the 4th time, rowdy stomps of feet again
